Run like a Mother

Today munchkin and I ran our first road race together! We participated in the CPCC Skyline 5k and ran with our friends Becky & Samantha and Tara & Norah - Go Team Hot Mamas!

They started the joggers in the front of the race which was a neat experience because they gave us a couple minute head start. Our mommy/daughter team signed up just for fun so were surprised when a man in an adaptive wheelchair and two with joggers took off sprinting as well as a woman with a double stroller following close behind. We weren't concerned with maintaining our lead, it was just nice not having to weave through the masses. The enjoyment of having the road all to ourselves (and pretending we were winning) was short lived though because soon the mob came charging past us. I don't think I would have thought it was so hilly, had I not been pushing close to 50 pounds. The route did end with a nice long stretch downhill though, another nice surprise because races always seem to end uphill in Charlotte.

All things considered we finished well - 26:43. Its been awhile since I have ran a 5k so paced cautiously but was still impressed with all 6 girls! We've already talked about doing it again, (and faster)

POST-RACE LOOT!

The morning wasn't over yet though... it topped off with a celebratory breakfast with the dads. I love having lots of places to eat in our neighborhood. This time we tried the newest place, Chickadees. The best part, my big girl stayed in her seat the ENTIRE meal, which was a true feat because it took almost an hour to be served.

Catch-up

Done lots lately that could have each warranted a post of their own with pictures but playing single mom this week has left little time for anything extra. So I am just going to list out my scatterbrained updates:
  1. The weekend with my college roomies was awesome! Surprised both mom-to-be and bride-to-be with small showers, laughed at old videos of ourselves, shared/caught up, ever shed a few tears and recreated our senior year "pile on" picture, (which I promise to post a side by side comparison!)
  2. Enjoyed 2 great concerts - my first Jimmy Buffet show and my third Amos Lee! Two entirely different shows but no arguing the company, crowd and the music for both was top notch!
  3. Spent a wonderful Easter Sunday with my beloved family. Join parents-to-be, Adele & Tom, for church then headed to High Point for lunch. My grandparents served another beautiful meal in their beautiful home. (It really should grace the cover of Home & Garden!) The only one not in a social mood was my little one but being off schedule does that to a 1 year old. The famous gardens and koi fish were key to getting smiles! That and big cousin Taylor... sorry Bill, looks like your baby whisperer title needs to be passed down.
  4. The addition has really taken shape, and not just figuratively. This has been a big week in the back yard - walls started going up today and I actually got to walk around my family room! Furniture next! Too bad, the darling husband and I don't have the same opinions. We picked kitchen cabinets, trim, granite and pulls easily but agreeing on a couch is proving more difficult.
  5. With Jim being in Mexico this week, I have not been able to attend my morning bootcamp sessions or even workout, not to mention I am not eating dinner til 9 o'clock. For this reason, I called my sitter and on short notice she come right over and took over! She handled dinner and bedtime while I went to the gym! I am sad to report I will be losing her this fall when she moves to Texas. I am going to have to start working on building that relationship with someone soon. Good luck Jenna!
  6. Its all over the place but in case anyone wasn't aware (drum roll please) the Royal Wedding is Friday and yes my DVR is set the capture all the coverage. OMG, a real live princess!

Chosen Family

Much anticipated and long overdue... this weekend is the 9er reunion!  I cannot wait to spend time with some of my favorite people in this world.  (We'll miss you Brooke, doesn't even cover it!)  I love any event that involves these girls and am thankful to have been able to attend their weddings, etc but I'm even more excited about this trip because the only thing on the agenda is to hangout and laugh til our sides hurt.  The last time we got together was August 2009 to marry in a new "member", but the sad thing is there doesn't seem to be one picture of everyone together.  Note to self: take lots of pictures this weekend!

As anxious as I am to meet my new niece or nephew and as excited as I am about adding the new "job" to my resume, I do hope Baby Y doesn't decide to make an early appearance while I am out of town!

Imitation is Flattery

Guess who is 18 months old? Then, guess who gets to answer "how old is she?" in something other then months?  I'm excited to point out that the munchkin is A YEAR AND A HALF!  I feel like this is such a milestone and that she is truly a little person now and not simply a toddler.  She is exploring her world and enjoying every discovery she makes.  She also imitates everything she sees. I think I am only missing talking on the phone and carrying her purse around.

Bye Bye BYE

When life hand your lemons, make lemonade!  Oil tanks = lemons | Playing on tractors = lemonade
The tanks were cleaned & removed, soil tested and all the contaminated dirt disposed off about 2 weeks ago. Just been waiting on word back from the geologist that we are safe to proceed. Any day now!

Maybe unrelated, but we did discover today that our air conditioner was leaking and is now empty of freon. Oh, another fun, unplanned bill to look forward to!

Reserved Parking

Just another reason I LOVE my hybrid! Wish it was everywhere I went. In this deck was also electric car "docking" stations. Too bad there were cars easily over 20 years old taking up some of the spaces. There were tons of empty ones and I've parked in a compact car space before so not going to raise a stink about it. However it did bother me seeing a gentleman pull into an "Expectant Mother" spot awhile back. I wish I'd gotten off my phone call to ask him when he was due. The inner-mean girl even thought the extra 10 feet of exercise that day wouldn't kill him but of course said nothing.
